Every now and then you discover something just delightful. Beatrix Potter’s notes are one of those things.
I’m not sure what my favourite part is — the drawings, the coded notes … or the bit about her getting her rabbit high in an attempt to sedate it so she could draw it. I highly recommend this Noted post.
One of the things that caught my attention are the botanical drawings. When I’m not working on book 4 in The Lyra Cycle, I’m plotting a side project related to the series that might include such drawings.
I might also pull inspiration from the Biodiversity Heritage Library. They have a whole image library on Flickr. I’ve only brushed off a little dust, but these are a few of my favourites so far.

Writing update
I keep clacking away on book 4 of The Lyra Cycle. I realized today that I did not have enough of Grim the cat, so that’s some I’ll need to work on.
Of course, I had a bright new shiny idea. Well, not really a new idea but a story in which to put a character who’s been rattling in my brain a bit. However, I but some notes in a file and said “I’ll be back later”.
What I’m reading
I just finished The World the Plague Made, the tome on the impact of The Plague that I mentioned last time. Since I’m not an historian, I don’t know how accurate the author’s conclusions are but losing half the population, give or take, of the Eurasian continent is going to have some lasting impact.
Now I’m onto some beta reading, so no new books to share. Maybe you have some to share with me?
Happy reading!
