I have a writing update — no, it’s not the book 4 of The Lyra Cycle is out (though things are progressing there, and I’m circling in on a title).
Instead, Grim’s origin story is now in ebook format. If you’d like to learn about Grim the cat’s life before he ended up on the Lyra, grab a copy until the end of June.
I also created a cover for the story, A Hangman comes to Tyche. What do you think?
The process was basically compositing a bunch of stock photos, doing a bunch of post processing, and some over-painting.
A curious thing
I wasn’t sure which James Webb story to share this week — that odds are rising that a “city killer” asteroid could hit the moon (but apparently that won’t be bad for us?) or the discovery of water ice around a distant sun-like star.
Given that every time there’s a space-related announcement, my first pronouncement is “it’s aliens!” even though I know it’s not aliens, lets go with the second one.
There could be life as we don’t know it, but for the life we know, water is critical.
According to the article “resembles what the Kuiper Belt […] likely looked like billions of years ago during the early stages of our solar system's evolution”.
It always amazes me when these announcements come out how deep we’ve been able to look into the universe and how much we’ve been able to learn. And that we, in some cases, know more about outer space than our own planet’s deep oceans.
Science, baby. It’s amazing.
Books for your TBR shelf
I recently finished Light from Uncommon Stars. There were things I really liked about it, some not as much, and other things that were hard to read, but overall I’d say that Hell, violin prodigies, and aliens work in the same story.
As a cis person, I think the author did a good job at letting the reader know the main character is trans without saying up front ‘btw, this character is trans’. I don’t know if trans readers feel the same way.
If you’re looking for something shorter, check out Boots on the Ground, a story by Jeannette Bedard, set it the same universe as The Lost Star Chart. It’s running over on Armchair Alien this month.
Happy reading!
