A mini migraine update
With a tangent into toques and extraterrestrial life
This is going to be a mini update because I’m fighting a mini migraine. I can function, depending on your definition of function, but it feels like I have one of those Egyptian tools to pull the mummy’s brains out up the one side of my head.
Does anyone else get that or something similar?
I have the fancy meds but they’re not always enough. I had the ice on the head earlier. I have a migraine toque, which is a toque I tried make for myself but it’s too small so it applies pressure … now that I think about it, maybe it’s the taking it off that helps, but it helps.
It’s the next day, and I have a bit of time before it comes back. So let’s continue….
A curious thing
I got so excited when scientists were first discovering exoplanets, and ones that could potentially be habitable. And I get excited by mentions of water and organic compounds on Mars. So when I found this story about how we’d tell life-created methane from geological methane, I had to check it out.
tl;dr we can’t.
But the science behind it is fascinating, and it uses chirality. Did you know snails also have chirality? Lefty-shelled snails can only mate with lefty snails, and righty-shelled snails with righty.
Writing update
I am making some good progress on the new novel. It’s rather different from what I’ve written so far. We’ll see if it stays that way.
Speaking of different, I have a new story running at Armchair Alien — That’s Not Salad.
Inspiration really can come from anywhere. This story was inspired by a discussion in a group of sci-fi authors about the things we call salad.
