No, this is not a week early.
The Canadian province I live in had an election a week ago. It was so close we didn’t know who had won until today, after they’d finished the final count of all the mail-in and absentee ballots and done recounts in a couple of ridings — and one of them flipped today! Democracy can be a nail-biter, though I absolutely trust our democratic process). All day I was … not checking because I have a day job. Really, honestly, not constantly checking.
If you’ve ever wondered if your vote even matters … it does. Here’s an example of two ridings — these two political parties won these two geographical ridings based on a 27 vote lead and 38 vote lead. Bonkers.
If you’re in the US, I don’t envy you. I plan to watch a movie next Tuesday night — I’ll find out the fate of the US — and the world — on Wednesday.
Writing update
Book 4 is in The Lyra Cycle ticking along. Usually the update is “argh, why so hard” but I’m getting really close to the end. Of course, then editing begins.
Shiny New Idea is waiting patiently in the wings. And I have some ideas for more stories in the same universe.
What I’m reading … and watching
I finished Tress of the Emerald Sea. It definitely has similar vibes to TJ Klune’s The House in the Cerulean Sea, which I also loved.
Season 4 of Slow Horses has started on Apple TV. If you enjoy British spy thrillers, I highly recommend it.
Books for your TBR shelf
If you’re looking to escape, not saying you have anything to escape from, but if you did, you can still grab a free book or two from this selection (can I recommend Day 115 on an Alien World by my Armchair Alien co-conspirator).
Happy reading!
