I’ve been busy with the garden now that we finally have some drier, sunnier weather here. And my body is not happy. My digging hip is cranky.
It doesn’t look like much yet — but I have beans! I also found time to take a corset making workshop. I’m in the process of binding the edges, then I need to learn how to lace it not like my running shoes, but I might have to try my hand at a full corset in the future. I’d love to make something sci-fi-esque.
Writing update
Don’t worry. I’m finding lots of time to write. Or edit more accurately. The second round of edits on book 4 are nearing the end. Then it’s off to the beta reader. It’s been a long wait, but I swear it’s coming soon.
In the gaps, I’m plotting my next book and doing a bit of research for it.
A curious thing
Earthly creatures and events can inform creatures and events in my books. But sometimes I read about an animal and think ‘how does this exists’ — it’s so fantastic.
Officially, the hoatzin. The young climb trees with their clawed wings rather than fly. They have lovely crest and blue patches around their eyes. But their defining features, as you might guess, is their smell, which is so bad even predators avoid them.

This one is definitely going into the “alien creatures inspiration” file.
Books for your TBR shelf
I just finished Out of Tune by a local author, which I quite enjoyed. The best description I have for it is Space Opera meets Terry Pratchett. There’s a irreverent humour to it. The book description mentions Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, but I haven’t read that so I can’t use it as a comparison.
Happy reading!
