Happy New Year! We made it to 2023 … though the world still seems pretty catawampus, as anyone in North America with travel plans over the last couple of weeks can tell you. Luckily for me, my plans were more local, and were just delayed instead of kiboshed.
Oooh, there are some good words in 2023 — catawampus and kibosh already.
Looking back and looking forward
Don’t worry, you won’t need your hip waders. There’s nothing too deep here, and I don’t do resolutions anymore.
Last year, book 2 in The Lyra Cycle was published. I took a bit of a hiatus over the summer, then spent a chunk of time in the autumn revising book 3. On a personal note, I moved. I didn’t want to move but had to because of reasons, and I was fortunate that I was able to, but it also took a few slices out of the energy pie.
I didn’t get away on any great vacations, and I’m starting to get itchy feet. I’d love to say what the best movie I saw was or my favourite book I read, but I’m bad a favourites … and I can’t remember which books I read last year vs the year before.
In 2023, book 3 in The Lyra Cycle is coming out, come hell or high water, which are both reasonable possibilities nowadays, in a warming world with things called atmospheric rivers. Revisions are pretty much done … at least until I get it back from the beta reader.
Look out for a new short story in 2023. I have a few days off over the holidays, so I let myself get distracted by a portable side project which I’ll share details about it soon. Then I need to decide what to work on next … the next scifi book or a new novel in the Bloodborne Pathogens universe. Thoughts?
I’m still looking for books to add to the 2023 reading list — let me know if you have any suggestions. I want to be better at tracking the list this year.
There’s also some plans for the Armchair Alien substack next year, so keep an eye out for that.
Happy reading!
