I have skipped an update or two. I could make excuses.
I was taking a sewing workshop that had homework. But I made a thing! Namely the Blanca flightsuit from Closet Core, but cut shorter than they suggest. I couldn’t get a good picture wearing it so here it is on a hanger.
And now I want to sew all the things. But that workshop was only one night a week. There were four more weeknights and weekends.
Gardening season has also started, so I’ve been at the allotment (aka community) garden prepping my plot for planting … though you’d hardly be able to tell because I haven’t done that much. So that’s not a good excuse either.
Well, I did tweak my back this weekend (see gardening, though correlation doesn’t equal causation — it actually seemed to be me reaching for my coffee that did it). But that meant I was on the couch most of the weekend (which was not actually good for the back).
So, no good reason. I just forgot. And we had a whole new story over on Armchair Alien since I last sent an update — check out Not Alone.
Writing update
Oh, I was also writing … but not book 4 in The Lyra Cycle. And not the spin-off series for Bloodborne Pathogens. Not even a prequel story like A Hangman comes to Tyche. No, it’s not even sci-fi or urban fantasy.
I’ve been writing a — I guess it would be fantasy — fantasy story. I might leave it open for space fantasy, but this story is totally ground-oriented. It is a shorter story, and will show up on the Armchair Alien newsletter when it’s done.
My Armchair Alien co-conspirator and I had another conversation about things that inspire us or fill our creative well. This time we chatted about inventors who met an untimely demise from their inventions, and wandered into scientists who experimented on themselves.
What’s on my TBR shelf
I just bought Redshirts by John Scalzi so that might be next. Though I’ll be reading the next book in the Murderbot Diaries as soon as the library delivers it. I think I only have two more to go — I love that series.
I’ve tried a few different ways to track what I’ve read in a year, but never kept it up. This I started a Pinterest board thing … there’s one book on it.
