Writing, reading and snakes ... actual snakes
Where I ramble about writing, travel from the before times, and books
I keep plugging away at edits on book 4 in the Lyra Cycle. Still in the “I don’t hate this” stage — I keep expecting this phase to pass. I am finding lots of instances of “why did I think that was a good word”.
But despite the energy-sucking distractions of the world, I keep plugging away.
A curious thing
I want to try to continue to include curious, cool, wondrous, bonkers things. I had the privilege of travelling to Costa Rica and having an energetic botanist for a guide — he kept ducking off into the woods and coming back with mangos … and snakes. BTW, they have the venomous fer-de-lance in Costa Rica. But that’s not the snake I want to talk about (thought I did see one in the hands of a capable snake handler — at least I wasn’t bitten).
At some point during the trip, the guide urged us to follow him — and those of us who love energetic botanists followed him. That small group got a not exactly “up close and personal” look at an eyelash viper. These snakes will curl themselves up into a floral shape AND TAKE DOWN HUMMINGBIRDS!
Watch the viper in action … as long as you don’t have ophidiophobia. How awesome is that! I mean, not for the hummingbird, but the world is awesome. And yes, this is actually my picture. I’m very glad I brought the proper camera on this trip — I was not as close as it looks.
Books for your TBR shelf
After finishing Legends & Lattes (great btw, book 2 is on the list), I picked up How Rory Thorne Destroyed the Multiverse. It’s a sci fi fairy tale fusion that was a lot of fun.
This month’s book of the month over on Armchair Alien is Jeannette Bedard’s The Lost Star Chart. If you enjoy lovable curmudgeons, fun adventures, and quiet hippos, this book is for you.
Happy Reading!
